December 17, 2019
Beginning Friday, December 20th, Empire BlueCross BlueShield (“Empire”) will be sending out new ID cards to Active participants/dependents and Non-Medicare Eligible Retiree participants/dependents in the New York City District Council of Carpenters (“NYCDCC”) Welfare Fund. These ID cards are being produced and mailed as a result of a new system being implemented by Empire that will become effective January 1, 2020.
It is important to note that your new ID cards will have new identification and Plan numbers, and as such, you must provide these cards to any doctors and/or medical facilities you plan to attend after January 1, 2020. Although you can use your current ID cards up until the end of 2019, you should also note that once 2020 arrives, you should discard your current ID cards and exclusively use your new cards. Continuing to use your current ID cards in 2020 may have an effect on whether your claims are paid in a timely and proper manner.
Please look for these ID cards to arrive at your homes soon. DO NOT throw out any mail you receive from Empire.
If you have any questions concerning your ID cards, you can contact Empire directly by calling (844) 416-6387 or visiting their website at www.empireblue.com.
